EDUcatering Excellence CSR Award
On Tuesday 13th October, our commitment to the environment was recognised by the industry, receiving the CSR Award at the 2015 EDUcatering Excellence Awards.
Earlier this year, we held our first Planet Matters day in which more than 18,000 children took part. The day is dedicated to promoting the benefits of protecting the environment through several interactive activities that help children find out how they can play their part in helping protect the planet. An activity which helped us achieve this award.
CSR activities include our plate waste campaign which is led by a superhero called Captain Wasteless. Developed with younger pupils in mind, and to continue the success of other waste initiatives, Captain Wasteless is helping to promote a plate waste campaign and reduce waste going to landfill. Still only in its infancy, the initiative is already having a positive effect with one site recording a 10% reduction in food costs and another reporting 14% reduction in waste.
Our employee led CSR programme, known as Planet Matters, is also about helping to educate children in understanding where their food comes from. As such, we are supporting many of our clients establish or create a school garden. Produce grown by the pupils can then be used within the kitchen, offering the children the chance to see the results and their hard work appear on the menu.
Collecting the award Operations Director, Sharon Linney said “It is fantastic that our CSR initiative has been recognised by the industry. Our school based catering teams continually work hard to ensure we look after our planet as well as engage pupils in several environmental activities both in the dining room and across the curriculum. I am really proud of all our employees and their dedication which has enabled us to achieve this award.”
