First schools’ caterer to be awarded three stars by SRA.

We have just become the first schools’ caterer to receive three stars from the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) -an accreditation that The Sunday Times has likened to the ‘Michelin Stars of Sustainability’.

Having pioneered several socially responsible and environmental programmes, this recent accolade is a true reflection of the proactive and inclusive approach we take to corporate social responsibility.

Assessing our sustainable and social activities, the SRA gave a total score of 70%, having scored us 100% in healthy eating, 99% in community involvement and 90% in waste management.  Marked across three pillars of sustainability, we reached 97% in Society, 67% in Environment and 57% in Sourcing.

Areas that helped achieve this top level rating included our commitment to reducing plate waste and our focus on using local suppliers for specific produce.  In addition, employee fundraising supported the score of 97% in the category of Society.  Fundraising has helped; build a school in one of Africa’s poorest communities, support unemployed and disadvantaged people find a job, and sponsor several breakfast clubs across the UK.

Mark Linehan, Managing Director of the SRA, said: “Enabling schoolchildren to eat healthy, well sourced food sets a standard which we believe will set them up for the rest of their lives, as healthy adults equipped to make responsible decisions about what and where they eat. So we applaud ABsolutely Catering for setting an example for all school caterers and look forward to working with them to build on this very impressive start.”
